A Bad Rainwater System Can Can Make Water Leak Into Your Home

Your home suffers a lot of rain pressure when it is wet outside. The exterior of your home protects your interior from suffering from rain damage. Most roofs are sloped in order that the water can run off and prevent heavy collections of rainwater gathering in pockets all over the roof. It is fair to say that if you didn’t have a sloped roof then you would find that the area gets damaged and holes would form. That’s why you need gutters, and cast iron ones are a great choice.

If left to it’s own devices the rain water would run down the sloped roof and subsequently continue to pour down the wall of the house passing over window frames, windows, door frames, doors and possibly onto the damp proofing at the bottom of the house. After this, puddles would collect which are dangerous and the water would just sit there for ages. The most important thing to remember is that too much rainwater, that’s isn’t properly controlled through the use of guttering, can in fact cause serious problems to the exterior and interior of your home. During winter this damage does not take long to manifest itself and can cause further damage itself.

The gutters and down pipes are there to prevent this from occurring. The rainwater gets collected in the guttering once it drips off the roof. You will notice that there is a very small slope in the guttering which helps the rainwater filter into the down pipe and into the drain. Cast iron is perhaps the best type of guttering to opt for, mainly because cast iron gutters are so durable.

Remember, if you get your guttering put in by someone unprofessional then you could end up with it pitched away from the wall, and this is as good as useless. Also, if you have gutters that cause all the rain water to collect in one area, this rainwater is then likely to run down one area of the wall.

The power of the water can erode the brickwork and the cement work causing serious structural damage and internal damp and rot. The best way to prevent this is to opt for cast iron gutters as these will require only a small amount of maintenance and a professional will ensure that they are installed properly.
